The internationally renowned McLaren Vale wine region is home to some of the best wines in Australia – think Shiraz and Grenache. In fact, James Halliday calls it one of the ‘ancestral homes’ of Shiraz in Australia.

McLaren Vale vineyards are filled with a collection of century-old vines that still produce some of the most stunning, award-winning wines from names as old as the region itself. Names like Hardy’s, Kay Brothers, Oliver’s Taranga, Wirra Wirra, Hugh Hamilton and Richard Hamilton, who all have a heritage that dates back to the first plantings in the region.

Whilst it is a region proud of its past, it also looks to the future. New varietals are being planted to complement the likes of Tempranillo, Viognier, Nero d’Avola, Mourvèdre, Montepulciano, Marsanne, Rousanne, Vermentino, Fiano, Barbera, and Sangiovese which are now found on the tasting lists of many wineries, as the region’s reputation for experimentation grows.
